Cookeville Tennessee Sounds Good to me, Why? Let us see...

"Cookeville, Tennessee sounds good to me" is a slogan that cannot be any truer for my family and me. We had the chance before moving to the land of the Smokies to move to California. A visit to San Jose California and a look at the real estate market was enough to scare us away. Our friends thought we were making a mistake, we just had a feeling it will be a good move. We were not sure, however, what to expect in the South, but soon we were happy we selected Cookeville as our new home. We were soon able to see the housing affordability and the ever increasing cultural and entertainment opportunities from professional football to ice hockey, from Country music to nature melodies in state and national parks. Cookeville is Growing: 2010 Brings Cookeville a fixed-Route Transit System

CATS is here!  As a sign for the growth in Cookeville, the city is getting a constant route transportation system.  Funded by stimulus money, the city is able to set up two routes with fixed stops.  This will definitely help visitors and students who may have found it difficult to move around Cookeville without a vehicle in the past.

According to the herald citizen the two initial routes for the buses are:

Purple route
* University Center east on Dixie (start of the route)
* University Center west on North Peachtree
* Cookeville Regional Medical Center on Cedar Avenue
* Tennessee Tech Village apartments on Ninth Street
* Stop on Fourth Street and Whitney Avenue
* Stop on 12th Street (commuter parking lot)
* School of Nursing building on Seventh Street

Green route
* UCHRA office on Williams Enterprise Drive (start of route)
* Restaurant Row, corner of Interstate Drive and Walnut Avenue
* Boatman Street development, corner of Walnut and Boatman Street
* Willow Avenue Apartments
* Jackson Plaza shopping center
* Sav-a-Lot shopping center
* Seventh Street development, corner of Seventh and Pine Street
* Cookeville Regional Medical Center on Cedar Avenue
* Putnam County Courthouse on Jefferson Avenue
* Walmart on Jefferson Avenue
* Hotels on Jefferson Avenue
* Polly Street development on Stevens Street
* Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce on West First Street
* Putnam County Library, city hall and West Town Mall on Broad Street
* Hobby Lobby on Jefferson Avenue
* Kroger on Jefferson Avenue
* Goodwill on Jefferson Avenue
* Peebles shopping center

Evening and Saturday route (stops in addition to the green route)
* Highlands 12 Cinema on South Jefferson Avenue
* Tennessee Tech's Clement Hall on Peachtree Avenue

This new transportation system is a great addition to the city of Cookeville. It is planned to start in the early part of February 2010.
